I
have always been a little high maintenance: playing in my mom’s bathroom
soon progressed to custom blending lipstick and mixing my own scrubs. As
an adult, I became a serious consumer, eagerly anticipating the launch of
fabulous new products. My bath was my sanctuary and a monument to relaxation &
exfoliation.
When my dermatologist diagnosed allergies, I was condemned to the world of
products suitable for sensitive skin. Armed with a list of ingredients to
avoid, I went shopping. One by one, my favorite products were eliminated and I
was frustrated to learn that even sensitive skin products are full of
irritants. A full day of shopping netted me a medicinal cleansing bar and
a bottle of Jojoba oil. Gone were the beautifully designed and fun to use
products that lifted my spirits every time I saw them. My new beauty
regime was as sexy as nurses’ shoes.
Unwilling to settle for a utilitarian daily routine, I set out to create skin
care products of the caliber to which I was accustomed. I consulted
dermatologists, biologists and chemists, turned my kitchen into a lab and set
out to find safer alternatives to commonly used irritants.
A lot of trial and error led to some great products, which I distributed to my
family and friends. When my enthusiastic testers started asking to buy
their favorite products by the case, a business was born!
